VILLAGE residents say they are gatvol of their councillor, who allegedly is not helping them to get even the most basic services.
The community of Maribethema Village outside Tzaneen in Limpopo this week said enough is enough.
They want their councillor and the municipality to listen to their demands – or they will block the main R71 road.
And if that fails to get attention, they said the IEC can forget about holding elections in their ward again. One of the community members told Daily Sun they have no clinic, electricity or water, and half of them live in dilapidated houses.
One of the residents, April Letsoalo, said: “Our children have to use an unsafe bridge when going to school. The councillor promised to fix the bridge. It has started to rain and it means no education for our children. We lost pupils a few years ago due to the broken bridge and nothing was done.”
Phineas Monyama said: “Why should we beg to speak to our councillor? Whenever we call him to our meetings, he says he needs a proper invitation.”
Councillor Pierre Cronje said the SANDF promised to build the bridge before the end of the year.
He said whenever he attended meetings he would just be insulted.
“So I told them to brief me before the meeting so that I can go prepared. I have never refused to meet with them,” said Cronje.
