CLEANERS have again disrupted services at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital in Cato Manor, KZN.
Yesterday, the cleaners protested against the labour brokers.
They are demanding to be employed permanently by the KZN Health Department.
“We work very hard but at the end of the month we only get peanuts,” said Khonzi Ngubane (40).
“Labour brokers pay us a non-living wage. We have kids to feed and send to school, but our salaries are so low.”
She said if the labour brokers wanted to employ them permanently, they must pay them a better salary.
“If they pay us a living wage, the government should get rid of them.
“We want to have benefits like the government workers.”
Another cleaner said they can’t make a living with the R2 000 they are being paid.
“This salary is not enough for a mother of three like me. At least they should pay us R10 000 a month, so we can take care of our families.
“We also want to enjoy the benefits of being employed by government.”
When Daily Sun contacted KZN Health spokesman Sam Mkhwanazi for comment, he said he would respond via email.
However, he didn’t respond at the time of going to print.
