THEIR yards – and sometimes their lounges – have been turned into wading pools.
The desperate residents of Greenside extension 44 in ward 8, outside Polokwane in Limpopo, are furious. They said they reported their concerns to the municipality but no attempt has been made to fix the problem.
When Daily Sun visited the families at the weekend there was water everywhere in their yards, even inside their houses.
According to resident Thelma Poopedi, the problem began two months ago.
“We fear for our health.”
She told the People’s Paper that whenever it rains they spend the whole night trying to get water out of their houses.
“We reported the matter to our ward councillor, but she never visited – and that shows she does not care about us.”
Another resident, Fungai Tafirenyika (45), said all his wooden furniture was soaked.
“I am forced to take our furniture outside to dry in the sun.
“We feel like we are aquatic animals because of the water in our yards and houses.”
Polokwane municipal spokeswoman, Desree Manyane, said the matter had been reported but residents should continue reporting such incidents to the municipality.
“The municipality will send out its technicians to investigate the place to check whether it is a wetland or faulty underground pipe connections.”
