The Hyundai Getz crashed into a house and destroyed the kitchen.

ON Friday a speeding car crashed into the kitchen of the Gabela family of J extension, KwaMashu, north of Durban.

The driver, who is believed to have fallen ill, lost control of his Hyundai Getz.

House owner Zakhele Gabela said he received a call to rush back home as his house had been destroyed.

The 42-year-old father said he was relieved to find his wife in one piece, but the sight of his house shocked him. “Most of the things in the kitchen were destroyed. I’m glad no one was there. My wife was in another room and my children and grandchild were at school.”

He said he heard the driver became sick while driving and that the driver’s brother promised to fix his house soon.

A resident said he saw the driver driving recklessly.

“We saw the car going straight for the house.” He said the driver almost caused an accident on the road.

When contacted by Daily Sun, the driver’s brother said he didn’t want to discuss the matter.

“All I can say is we will fix the house in two weeks’ time.”

The driver still is in hospital. Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said no case has been opened.
