THE national N2 highway going past Mthatha is a well-built road with multiple lanes for trucks and cars.
But despite all this, deadly accidents keep happening there.
And now, Mthatha residents have called on relatives of the dead to come and collect the lost souls’ spirits before more blood is spilled!
Elukhanyisweni Village resident, madala Mongezi Nkomo (72) said: “The spirits of people who died here are the cause of these accidents.
“Their relatives don’t fetch their spirits and the lost souls are angry.”
This comes after yet another horror crash happened yesterday morning when a Mazda bakkie smashed
into a delivery truck on the N2 near Matyeni Village, killing the driver of the bakkie.
The truck driver was rushed to Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital.
The 15km stretch of road just outside Mthatha passing near Matyeni, Sibangweni, Elukhanyisweni and Ngolo villages is well known.
Mongezi added: “Every year fatal accidents happen in this area.
“In 2013, 13 passengers died when the taxi they were travelling in collided with a truck.
“That same afternoon, four other people died when their car hit an embankment and caught fire.”
Eastern Cape Arrive Alive spokesman Tshepo Machaea said the bakkie was driving at high speed and moved out of its the lane when it collided with a truck driving towards Mthatha.
