AFTER 12 LONG years on the run, Fanie had finally been arrested for murder.
But Fanie never made it to the cells, because when he saw the cops he collapsed.
HE DIED OF SHOCK BEFORE HE COULD PAY FOR HIS CRIME.
Fanie Mashita (59) from Tembisa, Ekurhuleni, was finally bust for the murder of his wife, Salamina Mashita, who died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Captain Manyadza Ralidzivha said the man had been hiding in Klipgat outside Tshwane.
“He had been renting a room in a house, but his mastand didn’t know he was a wanted man,” said Ralidzivha.
“He called himself Thomas Sibanyoni.”
The cop said the truth came out when Fanie became sick and his mastand wanted to know where he came from so she could inform his family. Fanie told her he was from Tlamatlama, Tembisa but when she went to the address she was told by Fanie’s family he was wanted for murder and two counts of attempted murder.
“The mastand took Fanie to the house, but the family told her Fanie was wanted for the murder of his wife and the attempted murder of two other family members,” said Ralidzivha.
The family informed the police and when they arrived, the shock was so much for Fanie that he collapsed.
“The cops arrested Fanie and took him to Tembisa Hospital, keeping him under police guard. But he died of shock before he could face the charges.
“After shooting his wife he also shot his son and his sister-in-law but they survived.”
Salamina’s family said they could now put their 12-year ordeal behind them.
Mahlatsi Ngoepe, a relative who witnessed the murder, said she feared Fanie would come back for her. “We lived in fear he would kill us as well.”
Mahlatsi who still remembers what happened said on that day Fanie came looking for his wife and he went to the bedroom where she was lying down and he shot her.
“Then he turned the gun on his son and my elder sister. I ran out of the house to inform neighbours. He then disappeared and was never found until now.
“We still miss Salamina, but now that Fanie is dead we can finally let her soul rest,” she said.
