Killed by a train – or robbers?

Alan Mhlakwana said she does not believe her brother was hit by a train.

RESIDENTS claim he was hit by a train on his way to work.

However, his family is not convinced because the body of 51-year-old Joseph Vundla, from Howick, in the KZN Midlands, is still intact.

Instead Vundla’s lifeless body had wounds on his neck and body!

His sister, Alan Mhlakwana (41), told Daily Sun she received a call from residents telling her to rush to the train station.

She said people told her that her brother had been hit by a train.

She said: “When I arrived at the scene I saw something totally different.

“I suspect that my brother was beaten, shot or stabbed before being thrown next to the railway line.

“His cellphone and wallet were missing. When they said he had been hit by a train I expected to see a body in pieces but instead I found the opposite.”

Alan added that what makes them doubt the train story was that some residents had told her that they’d heard gunshots in the early hours of the morning.

“Maybe my brother was robbed and then killed. I want cops to investigate properly.”

She added that she heard someone else was also injured and rushed to hospital.

“By the time I arrived, the man had been taken to hospital.

“I heard that he was also going to catch a train to work,” she said.

She said Joseph survived on piece jobs.

Captain Nqobile Gwala said one man was found dead near the railway line while another was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

“An inquest docket has been opened at Howick Police Station for investigation,” said Gwala.

She said a post mortem will determine the cause of death.

“If the family has new evidence they should bring it to the police, who will investigate it and change the charge.”
