JELLY BABY DRUG MAKERS BUST!

accreditation

A NEW drug called a Jelly Baby is doing the rounds on the streets of Durban.

People believe the drug, which resembles a sweet is amphetamine-based and includes crystal methamphetamine (tik), is being sold to children.

Residents of Hawk Street in Umhlatuzana, south of Durban, acted fast by reporting the drug to the cops, before it spread like the Mercedes drug which took lives and had children hospitalised in KwaMashu.

Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said an operation was conducted on Saturday by the Durban flying squad and the organised crime unit.

She said the cops acted on information about suspects in possession of the drug. “The police went to the place where the new drug was being produced. It’s still being investigated whether the drug has been sold to any school children,” said Gwala.

She said three suspects aged between 27 and 39 were arrested for possession of drugs. They will appear in the Durban Magistrates Court soon.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, cops and members of the SANDF embarked on an operation in the Pongola area. Gwala said they recovered 11 bags of dagga weighing 171 grams. The street value of the recovered dagga is R250 000. She said the owners of the dagga are still being sought by the police.
