THE incident apparently started as a fight over a boyfriend between two grade 10 pupils.

And it ended with one pupil being scarred for life when a jealous girl allegedly poured boiling water over her rival, Sinalo Makaula (18)!

The incident happened inside a classroom at Buhlebemfundo Secondary in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni, on Thursday.

Pupils told Daily Sun the 16-year-old suspect went to the staffroom to ask her teacher to boil water so she could remove chewing gum from her school jersey.

She poured the hot water in a two-litre bottle and left the staffroom. A few minutes later, classmates and teachers heard Sinalo screaming in pain.

Pupils rushed to help her and found her skin peeling. The piping hot water was poured on her face and back.

“They were fighting over a boyfriend but we never thought that girl would take it that far,” said one of the pupils.

Angry pupils wanted to hit the suspect but she was saved by teachers who called the cops. She was arrested.

Sinalo’s mum Veronica (59) told the People’s Paper: “When I arrived at the school she had already been taken to hospital. I went to hospital and I couldn’t even look at my daughter.

“She was badly burnt and some of the flesh from her face was removed.”

Gauteng education spokesman Steve Mabona said officials would be sent to the school.

A case of assault was opened at Tsakane cop shop. The suspect was released into the custody of her parents.
