MULALO Netshunzhi (23) decided to end his life, but he wanted his mum and girlfriend to know why.

Via WhatsApp, he sent a photo of himself standing on his bed with a rope around his neck.

Mulalo said sorry to his mum and told his girlfriend he was committing suicide because of her.

And then the lovesick young man kicked his bed away.

When his mum got the message she sent it to a relative in Honeydew, begging him to stop Mulalo.

But the relative found Mulalo dead in his rented room in Zandspruit, north of Joburg.

Devastated mastandi Thandiwe Magadla (72) said Mulalo left a note telling his girlfriend he planned to marry her but she had disappointed him.

“He didn’t go into details,” said Magadla.

“I saw the WhatsApp photo on his cellphone with a rope around his neck.

“I loved that boy . He was a quiet and humble child.”

Police had taken the suicide note and cellphone note with Mulalo’s body.

Now Magadla wants Mulalo’s family to cleanse her yard and the room where he hanged himself.

“Other people might refuse to stay in the room as the spirit of the dead man may still be there.

“His family promised to pass here before they take his body home to Limpopo to fetch his spirit, but they never came,” said Thandiwe.

“I’m worried about what will happen if they don’t perform the cleansing ritual in my yard?”

Mulalo’s cousin, Julia Mudau, said they are not refusing to cleanse the mastandi’s yard.

“There was a misunderstanding between the family and the driver of the hearse.

“They arranged to meet somewhere to go to her house to pass the body,” he said.

“But the person who was sent to fetch the hearse never arrived and the hearse left.

“We are still raising money to perform the cleansing ritual.

“We’re pleading with the mastandi to bear with us.”

Honeydew police have opened an inquest docket.
