I DON'T KNOW WHY HE KILLED HIMSELF!

THE mum of a young man who took his life said she was still puzzled by his death.

Nhlakanipho Hlongwa (19) first overdosed on pills before hanging himself with a rope.

The incident happened at his home in Mzinyathi, north of Durban on Wednesday.

The grade 10 pupil was found by his 13-year-old sister and a neighbour, hanging from the rafters of his bedroom.

His mum, Matilda Hlongwa (48), told Daily Sun that she was at work when she received a call from her daughter.

“She told me Nhlakanipho was sick. She said he was tossing and turning while holding his stomach. She said she suspected that he had a stomach problem.”

Matilda said she told her daughter that she would call an ambulance for Nhlakanipho.

“A few minutes after I spoke to my daughter, she called again.

“She told me Nhlakanipho had hanged himself, but he was still alive because they saw him moving his feet.”

Matilda said she called an ambulance again but by the time it arrived, Nhlakanipho was already dead.

“My daughter told me that Nhlakanipho took an overdose of the pills for his fits because the bottle was empty and was lying in his room.

“I think when Nhlakanipho heard that his sister was going to get help for him, he decided to hang himself.

“I don’t know why he killed himself,” said Matilda.

She said they were puzzled because Nhlakanipho didn’t complain about anything.

KZN police spokeswoman Colonel Thembeka Mbhele confirmed that an inquest docket was opened at Inanda cop shop.
