MARIOS Dibane’s wife had been living with another man for some time when he decided he’d have no more of it.
So on Friday night, accompanied by his brother, his uncle and two other relatives, he went to fetch her in Vlakfontein, south of Joburg.
But instead of returning home with his wife, Marios (31), his brother Alfred (32) and their uncle William Sumbani (32) died as panga blades and big rocks rained on them!
Alfred’s wife, Luwisa Khosa (22) said: “We knocked on the door of the shack, but there was no reply. Instead, a man inside the shack blew a whistle and shouted ‘Vimba!’ Then residents came running, armed with weapons,” she said.
She said people started throwing stones at her and the three men, and later hacked them with pangas.
“I tried to explain that we were only looking for my brother-in-law’s wife, but no one would listen.”
She said a group of women gave her hot klaps, accusing her of driving around with men who robbed them.
“My husband never even bought stolen goods, but he died like a thief,” she said. William’s wife Odet Mashaba (26) said her husband had just arrived from work when he told her he and his nephews were going to fetch Marios’ wife.
“That was the last time I saw him alive. He was everything to me. He loved me and his children,” she said.
Police spokesman Captain Solomon Sibiya confirmed police were investigating cases of murder. No arrests have been made yet.
