Palesa Hugo’s family has been through hell after she was mistakenly declared dead.

THE HUGO family is traumatised!

This is after the family received news their loved one had died of a stroke.

The family informed relatives and friends of the tragedy and made arrangements to fetch the woman’s body from the hospital.

But then they found out it was all a big mistake.

Their relative was alive and kicking in her hospital bed.

Palesa Hugo (26) from Meyerton, south of Joburg, was admitted to Kopanong Hospital in Vereeniging last Monday.

Her sister Yolandi said two days later, the family was told she had died.

She said: “Police knocked at our door last Wednesday night to tell us our sister had died. We immediately called our relatives to inform them.

“We also arranged for an undertaker to collect her body at the hospital’s mortuary. But when we got there, we found she was alive.”

Now the family is angry and wants the hospital to take responsibility for what they put them through.

Yolandi said when they got to the hospital, a nurse told them Palesa’s body had already been wrapped for removal after being declared dead.

“But then it was discovered she was still alive,” said Yolandi.

Gauteng Health spokesman Steve Mabona said: “The MEC for health, Qedani Mahlangu, wishes to apologise to the family for the inconvenience caused.

“The MEC has instructed the CEO of the hospital to gather facts on this matter and report to her.

“In the event of any wrong-
doing, measures will be taken to correct the matter.”
