IZINYANGA are taking a stand against bogus members of their profession who use body parts to make muthi.
They say these people are dragging their name through the mud with their evil ways.
Sazi Mhlongo, South African Traditional Healers Association spokesman, said they want to clear the name of their profession by acting against chancers. “We have called a meeting in KwaDukuza on Wednesday.
“We will ask each person there to name an inyanga they know and we will check to see if these people are registered with our organisation,” Mhlongo said.
He said if they found izinyanga operating illegally, they would report them to the police. Mhlongo said they want the cops to search every corner of their houses.
“There are criminals who call themselves izinyanga. As a real inyanga, I know there is no human body part that can bring money or good luck,” said Mhlongo.
“Even albino people cannot make anyone win at a casino or Lotto. The inyanga title is being targeted by chancers and people who cash in. We don’t kill people, only bogus izinyanga do.”
Mhlongo’s statements came after a number of reports about human bodies being found in the houses of izinyanga.
One report that shocked many was the case of a woman’s head found buried in a shallow grave at the home of an inyanga at Mfekayi Reserve, Mtubatuba in December.
KZN police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said izinyanga must not take the law into their own hands.
He said they must bring bogus izinyanga they find to the police.
