HAWKS BUST LOAN SHARKS!

accreditation

THE Hawk's Serious Commercial Crime Unit arrested three alleged loan sharks, aged between 26, 38 and 43 in Namakgale outside Phalaborwa for unlawful possession of SASSA beneficiary cards.

The suspects were arrested following intelligence received about the unlawful possession of Sassa cards in the area.

During the operation police seized 35 Sassa beneficiary cards, 15 Identification cards, 3 EasyPay cards and R10 000 in cash.

HAWKS spokesman Captain Matimba Maluleke said all suspects were released on R1000 police bail each.

They will appear before the Namakgale Magistrate Court on Monday to face charges of contravention of Section 20 of the Social Assistance Act 13 of 2004 and National Credit Act 34 of 2005.

Malukeke said this operation is the third of its own kind in the Province after the two that were conducted in Bugersfort and Northam in August 2017.
