THEY were the best of friends – until chickens came between them!
Now the two gogos from Maphumulo in KZN cannot stand each other.
Khanyisile Chiliza (60) is angry with her former neighbour and friend, gogo Thandekile Mhlongo (72).
Gogo Khanyisile accused Thandekile of keeping her chickens.
However, gogo Thandekile insists that the chickens died. Khanyisile said she owned a hen that used to wander off and into Thandekile’s yard.
In November last year Khanyisile had to move and she decided to leave her hen with Thandekile.
“The hen was already hatching when I left it with Thandekile, in the hope of coming back for it once I had settled in my new home,” Khanyisile said.
Last week Khanyisile sent her son to fetch her hen and the chicks.
“However, my son came back with only three chicks instead of eight. I was so angry, because when I left the hen was hatching and it had about eight eggs,” Khanyisile said.
“Even if some died, there cannot just be only three left. I know for sure that the hen hatched more than three times. Where are those chickens? Even as we speak, the hen is still hatching.”
Thandekile said Khanyisile had no right to claim so many chickens from her.
“When she left she did not even leave any food for the hen.
“I had to look after it with my own money. Now she has the nerve to tell me that she wants eight chickens.”
However, for peace’s sake Thandekile said she would give some of the chicks, as well as the hen, to Khanyisile as soon as the chicks are strong enough to walk.
Thandekile’s neighbour, Bongekile Khoza (56), said Thandekile had many chickens in her yard.
“It is hard to tell if some of the chickens belong to Khanyisile.”
She confirmed the hen had hatched three times.
