AFTER leaving Mzansi 58 years ago and losing contact with her family, Betty Taylor is back in the country of her birth to find her relatives.
The 73-year-old told Daily Sun she followed her lover, Joseph Dube, to Zimbabwe when she was only 15 years old.
For the first few years the gogo sent letters to her family. But after a while the letters stopped.
Now she wants to make contact with her family again.
“It was a tough decision to leave the country but I chose my love for Joseph over everything else.
“My love for him was so strong that I saw nothing else,” she said.
“I would love to meet my sisters, brothers and parents again if God has spared them all these years. But I’m prepared for anything.
“I don’t know if my parents are still alive but it would be great to find them if they are.
“If they have died I want at least to know where their graves are so I can visit them.”
Betty grew up in Maitland, Cape Town, but in 1958 she moved to Kingston with Joseph. They later went to Joburg for a month before moving to Zimbabwe.
Betty’s older sister was named Beauty and her younger twin sisters were Lefaria and Motha Taylor.
“I got letters from Beauty in the beginning and she told me she had moved to Soweto, but I don’t know where exactly. I need SunLanders to help me find my family.”
