TWO families are at war with each other over the rape of a seven-year-old girl.

According to the girl’s father, who cannot be named to protect her identity, the child’s mum phoned him on Thursday to say the girl had told her she was raped by her uncle.

“My daughter was living with her mum and their relatives in Hillbrow, Joburg. I was shocked when I heard the news and I was devastated to hear her uncle had done this to her,” said the father.

“I took her to the hospital and it was confirmed she had been raped. The doctors said it was not the first time my daughter had been raped. I took her to the police station and we opened a case against the suspect.”

The father said the suspect often baby-sat his daughter and he had betrayed everyone’s trust. Making matters worse, he was told by the mum to drop the case against her brother.

When the SunTeam contacted the mum she said: “Why did he run to the newspapers with a matter like this?

“This is a family matter. I didn’t tell him to drop the case. I said he must consider the consequences this might have to the family as the child is too young to be attending court, especially for a case like this.”

Daily Sun contacted Ipid, which is handling the case and the directorate’s Tshepo Tsetsane said: “The case is under investigation and the victim has been taken to the Teddy Bear Clinic in Krugersdorp, Mogale City. We need to follow certain procedures and get instructions from the court before we make any arrests.”
