THIS family of eight blames an unseen demon baboon for all their rotten luck.

Phindiwe Mbathu (53) of Port Elizabeth’s KwaZakhele claimed it makes them sick.

Husband Elliot Zweni had a stroke in 2003 because of the baboon, she said.

“We are a Christian family but we can’t find peace because of the evil creature that walks on our roof.

“We have been applying in vain for an RDP house since 1997. Ward councillors tell us to keep applying.”

“This is the sixth shack we’ve rented here. Our landlords all kick us out for no good reason.

“Our neighbours accuse us of being followed by a baboon. But we’ve never seen it.

“Then something heavy carrying a chain walks on our roof.

“My six kids are jobless. We survive on my husband’s disability grant and my piece jobs,” she said.

“We have been praying for this creature to go away but it follows us wherever we go.

“We’ve been given three months to leave the shack where we now live. We asked our ward councillor to find us a place but he is reluctant to help us,” Phindiwe said.

Councillor Sizwe Jodwana said: “The landlord wrongly accused her and kicked her out.”

But Jodwana couldn’t say why she didn’t get a house and how he would help her.

  • Sangoma Nomathongo Kosi said: “This baboon is a demon used by evil people to block this family’s progress.

“When this evil creature sets foot in the yard or on top of a shack, it brings the family bad luck and sickness.”
