“YES, we need service delivery, but not this nonsense!”

That is the frustration of the people of New Brighton kasi in Port Elizabeth.

This is after their taps ran dry for three days.

Since Tuesday, there has been no water in the area due to municipal installation of water pipes and tar roads.

Residents claim the project has been going on for six months without being completed.

Sphokazi Pieterson (27) told Daily Sun: “The municipal workers came this morning and told us to draw some water because they are working. They closed water channels after 30 minutes.

“This had been going on for the whole month. They would come in the morning and close the water supply. A water meter near my home is broken and water is leaking, making the whole street muddy.”

Municipal spokesman Mthubanzi Mniki said: “We are sending trucks every day and I’ll inform the relevant officials to look into the matter.”

Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Athol Trollip said: “I would be angered if this is what they have done, but I am away in Alice at Reverend Mkhenkesi Stofile’s funeral and I don’t have first hand information.”
