MOURNERS had to block their noses when they buried the decomposed body of Sonwabo Ngcukana on Saturday!
The Ngcukana family from Zwide in Port Elizabeth accuse Matebese Funeral Parlour of letting their 53-year-old brother’s body rot.
Sonwabo’s body was kept at the funeral parlour for two weeks.
According to his sister, Nomthandazo Ngcukana-Ngxekwa (41), Sonwabo’s body was found by cops on 8 November between Despatch and Uitenhage with several stab wounds.
A furious Nomthandazo said: “My brother’s body was still in a good condition when we identified him at the government mortuary in Uitenhage.
“It shocked all of us to get a call from the funeral parlour on Friday saying the coffin would be sealed because the body was in such a bad state. We insisted on seeing the body, which was badly decomposed. It was humiliating.”
On Saturday there was more pain for the family.
“Mourners had to block their noses because of the bad smell,” she said.
“We told the undertaker to take the body back to the mortuary and bring it back just before the burial. We couldn’t hold back our tears.”
Matebese Funeral Parlour owner Linda Matebese, said: “The body was brought to us in that condition. Out of 10 burials we had that day only this family had a problem with a rotten body. Our fridges are working fine.”
