A FORMER municipal councillor is behind bars today as a suspect in
the killing of his wife.
The Bloemfontein woman was allegedly kept in a car boot for two
days and then burned on Sunday at a dump site in Winburg, Free State.
The former Masilonyana councillor is understood to be employed in a
senior post at another Free State municipality.
It’s alleged that the 23-year-old woman suffered a fatal head
injury in an argument with a man at her house in Bloemfontein last Friday.
Her body was said to have been driven by car to Winburg 116km
away.
A family member said: “The suspect arrived on Friday with his car
and parked it at our mother’s house. He was very disturbed. He left on Sunday
with the car.
“We were shocked when we learned he had been arrested after driving
to the cops and dumping his car there.”
Sergeant Ian Gaopebe said police found the burned body of a woman
at a dumping side in Winburg.
He said the woman was the alleged victim of domestic violence at
her home in Bloemfontein.
“It’s further alleged the suspect drove with the body to Winburg
and dumped it on Sunday.
“The suspect was later arrested and charged with murder. A
33-year-old man is in custody at Winburg Police Station and will appear before a
Bloemfontein magistrate soon.”
