THE cops bust a man driving at 254km/h in his Ferrari on Saturday afternoon!

The 48-year-old driver was apparently tired after having business meetings and was rushing to North West when he was caught on the N1 near Glen, Free State.

According to the cops, he refused to stop when instructed to do so and they chased him until his red Ferrari 458 had to stop at a tollgate about 8km from where he was first spotted. A cop said the man claimed to be an engineer who was rushing home to Mahikeng after a series of tiring meetings in Bloemfontein.

“The Ferrari was spotted on the N1 by Free State traffic cops with a speed camera,” said the cop.

“The camera showed the driver was doing more than double the speed limit.

“His speed clocked 254km/h in a 120km/h zone. He said he was tired from long meetings and just wanted to get to Mahikeng so he could rest.”

Kabelo Moloabi, chief provincial inspector, said the driver was caught at 3.37pm.

“He was arrested and was later released after paying bail of R3 000,” he said.

Police spokeswoman Sergeant Mosili Ntsika said the driver was charged with exceeding the speed limit.

He will appear in the traffic court in Bloemfontein soon
