RESIDENTS of Ingwavuma, northern KZN were excited when a project to construct a flea market took off in the CBD.

But now the flea market has been turned into a sex spot by residents who poke under the trading stalls.

Resident Sizwe Mngomezulu (41) claimed the flea market was never completed and has never been officially opened.

“It was just abandoned. Jozini Municipality didn’t even bother to tell us what delayed the project,” said Sizwe.

Another resident, Sipho Vilane (37), claimed the spot is used to drink. “After boozing with their friends, they dump their bottles and rubbish there.”

Jozini municipality spokesman Nhlonipho Ndlovu said: “We had a few hiccups with the contractors but the project was completed towards the end of last year. We heard about the incidents of vandalism. The project was started in 2015, not four years ago as the residents claim. The project manager is dealing with this issue.”
