THE family and the villagers were still mourning the death of their inkosi, but now they have to deal with another disaster.

Exactly a month after Inkosi Ziwengu Lushaba (63) died in his bedroom in Oshabeni near Port Shepstone, it was eaten by flames on Saturday afternoon. The other rooms were saved. Ziwengu’s sons told Daily Sun they were certain the fire hadn’t been caused by an electrical fault. They said the mysterious fire engulfed the house soon after church members who were there to pray had left.

“We were transporting relatives when we received a call that the house was on fire,” said Sabatha Lushaba (41).

He said they were worried that the date of the 25th has become a curse for them.

“Our father died on 25 May and the fire struck on 25 June,” he said.

Thulani Zamisa of the Ugu Traditional Healers’ Association said they could not confirm the cause. “It’s difficult to say whether it was caused by vutha,” he said.

Captain Nqobile Gwala said the cause of the fire was unknown.
