PEOPLE who live close to this abandoned house can’t take it anymore . . .
The grass is overgrown, it’s infested with rats the size of cats, and a seriously bad smell hangs in the air!
And now the gatvol residents want the councillor to find the owners, or to have the house cleaned up.
They said the house at G section in KwaMashu, north of Durban, was abandoned six years ago when the owner died.
Resident Thulani Mthembu (46) told Daily Sun: “I don’t know what happened to the family. The owner of the house died and left the house to his wife, whom we all knew.”
But he had another wife who lived in the rural areas.
“So the wife from the rural areas came and demanded to live in the house after the man died, causing a huge fight between the two wives,” said Thulani, talking out of the side of his mouth.
The women eventually abandoned the house and two mentally ill brothers ended up living there.
“It caught fire because the brothers used to burn wood in the house to keep warm,” said Thulani.
They left after ruining the house, and that was the last time people lived there.
“What kind of people desert their home like that?” asked Thulani.
He said the bad state the house was in would decrease the value of their properties.
“It’s very bad for all of us who live close to the house. I don’t think anyone from the family will ever come back,” said Thulani.
Resident Mbuso Dlamini (37) said the house would soon become a hideout for thugs.
“The councillor should act fast before the worst happens,” said Mbuso.
“Putting other people in the house while the councillor searches for the family might
be a great idea because he can’t sell it.”
Councillor Muziwenhlanhla Shezi told the People’s Paper: “I need to find the owners because I can’t do anything without consulting them first.”
