#FeesMustFall activist Bonginkosi Khanyile has been released by the Durban Magistrate’s Court following his rearrest on Friday morning on charges apparently relating to last year’s #FeesMustFall protests, which saw him being kept behind bars for almost six months.

Khanyile, a student at Durban University of Technology, posted on his Facebook page on Friday that he was rearrested and at the Durban Central police station "on the same case of Fees must fall protest".

Khanyile, who is associated with the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command, was first arrested on September 26, 2016, during student protests for free education.

He was granted bail of R250 in the Constitutional Court in March this year, after he challenged decisions by two lower courts to deny him bail, following his arrest during the countrywide #FeesMustFall protests.

His friend, and EFFSC leader, Philani Gazuzu Nduli also posted on Facebook that Khanyile had been arrested.

He later posted: "He is currently appearing now at S Court, let's hope and cross our fingers that the court will release him."

After an hour, he posted: "Fighter Education is out let the enemy vomit!"

Replying to his followers who had asked why Khanyile was arrested, Nduli said: "Khanyile was apparently arrested for breaking his bail conditions."

It was not immediately clear whether Khanyile was released on bail or on a warning.

The police and National Prosecuting Authority were not immediately available for comment.
