A MAN believed to be behind a string of daylight robberies got a taste of his own medicine on Monday morning.

According to witnesses, a furious crowd tried to kill the man after he robbed and injured a hawker in Thohoyandou, Limpopo.

The incident happened while the hawker was serving a customer. But according to residents, the man had also robbed the hawker the previous day.

A witness said: “I saw the thug searching the hawker and when the hawker tried to defend himself, the robber hit him on the head with a brick.”

He said the thug then stood in the road shouting that no one could catch him as he would kill anyone who tried.

“This man is feared here in town but people finally gathered up their courage and surrounded him. That was when all hell broke loose.

“He was attacked by the crowd with bricks and sjamboks. The arrival of the cops saved the man from certain death,” said the witness.

Thohoyandou police spokeswoman Constable Avhafarei Tshiovhe confirmed both the suspect and the hawker were taken to a local hospital.

She said the cops were investigating cases of assault and attempted murder.
