THANDEKA Mkhungo went for an operation to remove blood clots and woke up in so much pain she thought her legs were on fire.
Thandeka’s family from Inanda, Durban, believe she is being treated badly because she is serving a 25-year sentence for corruption, kidnapping and theft.
Thandeka was admitted to the King Edward VIII Hospital in May.
Family spokeswoman, Thembi Mkhungo (42) said her sister was vomiting blood and complaining of stomach pain.
She had an operation on
6 May, but when she woke up she was in extreme pain.
Thembi claimed her sister is unable to walk but the hospital is trying to sweep the matter under the carpet.
“Thandeka could walk when she arrived in hospital. We have made enquiries but the hospital is not giving us answers.
“Last week a senior official called and promised to schedule a meeting with us. But we are not happy because this has taken way too long.”
Thembi said her family will only be relieved if the matter is thoroughly investigated so her sister can be compensated.
KZN Health spokesman Sam Mkhwanazi said he could not speak about the patient’s confidential information but confirmed that Thandeka was still being treated.
He said: “She has been receiving counselling as well as full medical attention. Hospital management has also held a discussion with the government department which acts as the patient’s guardian.”
