A trio of fake cops could not escape the arm of the law when real cops hunted them down.

In what proved to be a high-speed chase, the fake cops were outmatched.

A gang of robbers that has been targeting travellers from the OR Tambo International Airport, were targeting Mozambican foreign nationals who were driving a silver Toyota Hilux Bakkie and a HiAce minibus on Friday.

The gang, who were driving a white Toyota Etios, robbed people on the N12 highway of their cash and cell phones.

A quick response from a Community Policing Forum (CPF) patroller, who witnessed the hijacking, set the wheels in motion.

The patroller, from the Mondeor sector, alerted other CPF members, who then alerted the Joburg Metro Cops, the Booysens police, the Joburg Flying Squad and a SAPS helicopter.

The CPF patroller and the entourage of law enforcement chased the thus into Haddon, Joburg South, and the thugs were eventually caught and arrested.

A case of robbery with a firearm and impersonating SAPS members has been opened against the suspects.
