TWO children are in hospital after their father allegedly poisoned them to get revenge on their mum for dumping him earlier this year.
The suspect is also accused of setting alight a car belonging to his former girlfriend’s new lover.
The 31-year-old mum of three from Rabie Ridge, Midrand said her former boyfriend could not accept she had dumped him.
“I left him because he was abusive and controlling. He used to beat me in front of people. Sometimes he would even come to my parents’ house and beat me,” she claimed.
“He has been sending me messages threatening to kill me and the kids.
“I reported it to the cops and they served him with a protection order.
“This didn’t stop him from sending messages to intimidate me, though.”
She claimed on Thursday she received a message saying he had killed two of the kids and was going to commit suicide.
“My family and I rushed to his place and found the kids, aged four and seven, lying on the bed unconscious.
“We called an ambulance and they were rushed to hospital,” she said.
The family accused the police of not doing enough to protect the children.
The children’s mkhulu said: “If the police had arrested him when he was sending my daughter threatening messages, the poisoning could have been avoided.
“He even drove around our house and swore at us.
“We have been living in fear. We are not safe and we fear he will shoot us.”
Police spokeswoman Sergeant Sharon Mahamba said a case of malicious damage to property was opened.
She said the family would be able to open cases of attempted murder once the hospital released the results of the children’s blood tests.
