‘EX-COP STOLE FROM SAPS SECRET FUND’

accreditation

FORMER crime intelligence captain Morris Tshabalala made his first appearance in court yesterday after being arrested by the Independent Police Investigating Directorate this week.

He appeared in the Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria for a bail application, but the case was postponed to today. In court it was revealed that although Tshabalala had claimed to be unemployed, he visited his probation officer in a crime intelligence car. He was arrested on Tuesday while reporting to the officer.

Tshabalala is facing five charges of crime, theft, fraud and corruption. The charge sheet revealed he is accused of stealing more than R500 000 from the police.

It’s alleged he submitted fraudulent invoices worth hundreds of thousands of rands to tap funds from the crime intelligence unit’s secret service account.

Tshabalala was previously found guilty of involvement in a cash-in-transit heist and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
