POLICE are hunting the thug who chopped off a 61-year-old gogo’s head on Saturday and then fled the scene.
Maria Ndlovu was murdered with an axe at about 10pm at her home in Kumani Village outside Thulamahashe in Mpumalanga.
Esther Zitha (65), who was visiting gogo Maria when this happened, told Daily Sun they were about to go to bed when there was a knock at the door.
“Maria opened the door, thinking her son was knocking.
“But a man who used to be in a relationship with Maria’s daughter Sibongile stormed in.”
Esther said the man harassed Maria and accused her of selling Sibongile (24) to another man.
“They argued for a while and he left after telling Maria he was giving her three days to bring Sibongile and their child back to his house.
“He later came back with an axe, ready to kill Maria.
“They wrestled for some time until she managed to get out of the house, but he ran after her and chopped off her head before running away.”
Community leader Phanuel Hlatshwayo (65) said Maria did not have an ID as she was from Mozambique.
“It will be difficult for the family to arrange for her funeral as no one has money,” he said.
Sibongile said she ended the relationship with the suspect last week and denied having a child with him.
Colonel John Ngwenya said a case of murder was opened. He appealed to anyone with information to call Warrant Officer Jeffrey Sithole on 078 130 1005 or 013 773 0331.
