THINGS are set to become heated in Parliament tonight when President Jacob Zuma delivers his state of the nation address.

During his address last year, chaos erupted when the EFF started chanting, “Pay back the money”.

This year, the EFF has promised to share the address with Zuma if he doesn’t give them answers to a variety of issues.

This comes hot on the heels of Tuesday’s Constitutional Court hearing during which Zuma’s lawyer made bruising confessions.

EFF leader Julius Malema has said this year, his party will demand to know why Zuma fired former finance minister Nhlanhla Nene, which Malema claims plunged the country into financial turmoil. However, he clarified that Nene was not a friend of the EFF, accusing him of being a product of white capital.

Malema also dismissed parliamentary speaker Baleka Mbete’s threats that anyone who disrupted the house would be dealt with.

Over the weekend, ANC Youth League president Collen Maine told a rally in Tshwane that anyone who brought violence to Parliament would be met with violence.

He urged Mbete not to arrange security for the joint sitting as the league would deal with it.

“Those who seek to disrupt the state of the nation address must prepare themselves for a civil war.

“We wish to inform the speaker of Parliament not to organise security on the day. The youth league will physically remove woodworkers from Parliament,’ said Maine.

Mbete has dismissed both Maine and Malema’s threats.

However, there will be three different protests outside Parliament in Cape Town tonight.

City of Cape Town spokeswoman Priya Reddy said permission was granted to the Zuma Must Fall movement, the Ses’Khona People’s Rights Movement and the DA.
