NORTH West provincial legislature chief whip Hoffman Galeng on Saturday handed over a fully furnished house to a big family.
He went with Mahikeng mayor Gosiame Seatlholo to give pensioner Rebecca Ntwagae her brand new house.
The 64-year-old from Tsetse Village was living in a one-roomed house with her five children, 11 grandchildren and her unemployed brother.
They survived on the gogo’s old age grant and child support grants.
The overjoyed gogo told Daily Sun: “I don’t know what to say to the government for building me a dream house to live in.
“I’m truly over the moon and I appreciate the efforts made to make sure I got a decent house for my entire family.
“This is a huge Christmas present for me and I will forever be grateful. The leaky mud house we were living in before was not fit for human settlement. It used to collapse during the rainy season.”
Their new house was donated by contractor, Tigane Developers. The house has three bedrooms with built-in wardrobes, a lounge and a kitchen with a stove.
Galeng decided to help the family after visiting them on Mandela Day last year and seeing the terrible conditions they were living in.
“After noticing their plight, we decided to call on people who could assist the family with a decent house. Today the family is having a big celebration because they finally have a proper shelter. As you can see, the gogo is crying tears of joy,” he said.
Seatlholo added: “We thank the developer for doing something good by donating a house to this family. About 100 housing units here in Tsetse are close to completion. We are bringing dignity to our people and changing their living conditions.”
