AFTER two years of dating, Samuel Rankoe decided to send his uncles to negotiate lobola for his lover, Leah
Mashiyane.

Little did he know Leah had kept two secrets from him – that she was 12 years older than him and had a husband serving prison time!

Samuel (32), from Luthuli Village, near KwaMhlanga in Mpumalanga, said he was left not only heartbroken but with no money after Leah allegedly cleaned out his bank account and ran off. He said he had also been making the payments on her car.

“It was only after I told her I wanted to begin lobola negotiations that she began to behave strangely.”

Samuel said Leah started receiving phone calls in the middle of the night, which she would take in another room. She told him it was her cousin.

“When I called the number with my phone, a man answered and said he was Leah’s husband.”

He said when he confronted her, she admitted her husband was in prison and she was 44, not 32 as she had told him. She then moved out of the house.

“I moved to another village only to receive a protection order from her. Last month I was arrested for breaching one of the orders,” said Samuel.

Leah told the SunTeam she had been Samuel’s girlfriend but she couldn’t discuss the matter as it was in the hands of her lawyers.

“I took out protection orders because Samuel wanted to kidnap my son and has been stalking me,” said Leah.
