USUALLY, it is impossible to see the legs of another driver when you are driving in your car.
But on Friday motorists on Church Street in Bloemfontein could see the black shoes and blue socks of the man driving a blue Toyota Hilux 2.4D bakkie.
That’s because his bakkie didn’t have a door on the driver’s side!
Even though the man had his seatbelt on, pedestrians and motorists were shocked to see the bakkie on the road.
The passenger smiled at the SunTeam’s camera as the bakkie drove past and was not spotted by traffic cops.
But according to the traffic department, a car without a door is not roadworthy.
Sammy Mosieleng who spotted the bakkie said: “This is the luckiest driver I have ever seen. I mean traffic cops don’t even stop him. I used to drive a taxi and I would not get away with an overload of just one passenger.
“I should ask him what muthi he uses to avoid being stopped by traffic cops,” Sammy said.
Daily Sun could not stop the bakkie to speak to the driver and the passenger only waved as the bakkie took a turn.
Free State police, roads and transport spokeswoman Hilary Mophethe said a car that doesn’t have a door should not be on the road unless a mechanic is testing it.
“If spotted, the car will be impounded and the driver will be fined,” Mophethe said.
