NOMVULA Mokonyane believes the time has come for ANC leaders to put their egos aside when they have differences.
Mokonyane, chairwoman of the ANC NEC sub-committee on elections, said: “If I have differences with other ANC comrades, we must be able to sort it out without going to the media.
“We should use the right platforms, like the NEC, to discuss our issues.”
She said the differences that happen in the ANC hurt her.
Mokonyane, who is also minister of water affairs and sanitation, was speaking to the media at Emoyeni Conference Centre in Joburg yesterday.
She was joined by ANC Gauteng PEC member and Ekurhuleni mayor, Mondli Gungubele.
The meeting was one of a number of briefings aimed at engagements with the ANC’s 2016 local government elections manifesto.
The engagements also focus on service delivery in local government over the past 15 years.
Mokonyane said a lot of work has been done to make sure that people have access to water.
She said about 90% of South Africans had access to drinking water, compared to 50% when the ANC came into power.
“I can say the bucket system has been completely eradicated in Gauteng.”
She said only the North West, Free State, Northern and Eastern Cape still had the bucket system in some areas.
Gungubele said: “In 2011, Ekurhuleni was the lowest in terms of service delivery, but today we are in the top three.”
