HE WAS holding a knife in one hand and his decomposing body was covered with bruises!
That is the gruesome sight that greeted Fanizana Myeni’s family when his body was found in the Quarry Heights dam on Saturday.
The 31-year-old from Quarry Heights, north of Durban, allegedly jumped into the dam last Saturday.
He was reportedly being chased by men he had fought with earlier.
After the news of his disappearance broke, the search for his body took the entire week.
His brother-in-law, Zakhele Zulu (32), told Daily Sun: “On Saturday I got a call from one of the residents telling me that a man’s body was floating in the dam.
“I didn’t waste time, I rushed to the scene and after seeing the body, I called the police,” he said.
Zakhele said the whole experience was painful.
“It looked as though he was brutally beaten.
“His entire body was covered with bruises. He was holding a knife in one hand and his body was starting to decompose,” said Zakhele.
He added that it looked like he was beaten to death.
“When they realised that he was dead, they tossed his body
into the water.
“ I don’t believe he jumped.”
Zakhele said they want the cops to investigate this case thoroughly.
Police spokeswoman Captain Nqobile Gwala said an inquest docket is being investigated by Greenwood Park cops.
“Members of the Durban search and rescue unit were called on Saturday to come and recover the body of the victim.
“Circumstances surrounding the victim’s death are still being investigated. No arrests have been made,” said Gwala.
