A MAN was riding his bicycle in a bushy area at Giba Gorge in Pinetown, west of Durban, when he was allegedly confronted by two men who wanted to rob him.

But little did the thugs know that they were messing with the wrong guy.

He allegedly pulled out a knife and fought off the thugs. He allegedly stabbed one of them dead and injured the other man. The incident happened on Sunday morning.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said paramedics, their rescue unit and the police’s search and rescue unit arrived at the scene. “They walked on a steep slope for about 500m before they got to the first man.

“After the patient was examined they found that he had sustained a penetrating wound and had already died,” he said.

Botha said after they walked a further 500m they found another man lying near a river with a critical wound.

“The patient was stabilised at the scene and after the Netcare 911 advanced Life support paramedics placed him on a ventilator. The police airlifted them back to where the ambulance was parked,” he said.

KZN cops spokeswoman Captain Nqobile Gwala confirmed the incident.

“It is reported that the complainant was riding his bicycle when he was confronted by two suspects who wanted to rob him.

“He fatally stabbed a man(25) and injured the other suspect. An inquest docket and attempted robbery case was opened at the Mariannhill cop shop,” Gwala said.
