RANDFONTEIN Home Affairs will record Fumanekile Mraja’s ID information only after he rises from the grave.
This is what the father of seven from Simunye near Westonaria, west of Joburg, told Daily Sun.
“In 2013 I wanted to buy a car but the garage salesman said I appeared dead on their system.
“I then went to the bank. One employee took so long to help me, I suspect she thought I was a ghost,” he said.
“I went to Randfontein Home Affairs and officials told me that according to their records, I was dead.
“It’s shocking that they think I am dead, yet I am working as a security guard at the Doornkop Gold Mine near Soweto.”
The 53-year-old man is gatvol. He said he has to open a bank account so that he can send money to his kids in the Eastern Cape.
“Sars still takes tax from my salary and other accounts are getting paid from my salary every month.
“It’s a sick joke that Home Affairs lists me as dead.
“My kids are suffering as I can’t deposit money for them so they can eat.
“Why do officials keep on saying they will call me but still say I am a ghost?”
Fumanekile said he has reported the matter to Home Affairs in Pretoria.
“When I went to that office they promised to call me, but they have not done so yet.”
He said he got his ID many years ago in the Eastern Cape after he submitted all the required documents. He appealed to the People’s Paper to get answers about his plight.
Home Affairs spokesman Thabo Mokgola told Daily Sun: “Send me the details of the man. We will investigate the matter and officials will call him.”
