THE ANC must win and regain its position in the province.

“We need to get 90% of the vote and win decisively in Limpopo,” said Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, speaking at the ANC’s 104-year provincial birthday celebration yesterday at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Ramaphosa said municipalities led by the ANC must lead in cutting wastage, hiring competent staff and ensuring transparency and accountability. He also praised Cosatu for their alliance.

“We know that Cosatu have had challenges in the past and we supported them and we will continue to make sure that we strengthen the federation,” he said.

He said a new federation will never be on the same level as Cosatu.

“This year the NEC has instructed all of us to return to the basics. We must treasure, preserve and deepen our proud traditions of close and consistent engagement with our people,” he said.

He said the province produces the best scientists and mathematicians.

“Yet you are always at the bottom when coming to the matric result pass rate. You should be ashamed of yourselves,” he said. “Parents, teachers and the department must work together to improve matric results.”

On Saturday night the party held a gala dinner at which there was also an auction held of their party memorabilia, which netted R1,6 million.
