THEY’RE curvy and sexy, and not afraid to strut their stuff on stage.
But now the winners of the unique pageant for big mamas have been left with heavy hearts and plus-sized frowns.
The organisers allegedly failed to give the finalists their prizes.
The Plus Size Is Me beauty pageant was contested by 25 women from seven provinces on 10 March at the Don Hotel in Bloemfontein.
It was advertised as a pageant specifically designed for curvy and shapely models with a good sense of humour. But with no money or prizes coming their way, the three finalists now regret taking part in the competition.
Queen Boitumelo Seduku said she was still waiting for her weekend stay for four at a hotel, as well as R14 000 of her R15 000 prize money.
“I’m so disappointed. I promised my friends a nice outing after I won the title and I have run out of excuses now. I don’t know what to tell them anymore.”
First princess Zanele Chaka said: “I had to travel from North West to Bloemfontein.
“We all paid for our dresses and a whole lot of things. The pageant owes me R5 000.”
Chief Leeuw, founder and organiser of the event, said they were facing financial difficulties.
“Winners have not been paid yet.
“We will pay them as soon as we can. We ask them to please bear with us.
“The ticket sales for the event did not meet our target and the anticipated sponsors also never came on board.”
