GODFREY Makaota (47) never paid damages for the daughter he had with Nokukhanya Nkosi.

And according to Nokukhanya, he was never part of her life.

Then days before the six-year-old Hlompho Nkosi died on Friday, he rocked up at her deathbed.

Now he wants to give the child a proper burial – but his fuming ex-girlfriend said that won’t happen because she plans to cremate her daughter’s body.

“Cremation is not our culture. I need to go visit her grave and do our rituals to remember her,” said Godfrey.

But Nokukhanya has vowed Godfrey won’t bury Hlompho, who died in a hospital in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni. The two parents are now locked in a legal battle in the South Gauteng High Court.

On Monday, the SunTeam visited the father in Tsakane. Godfrey was with relatives from his side of the family and those from Nokukhanya’s.

He said Nokukhanya wasn’t happy that he was at his daughter’s deathbed.

“My daughter suffered a lot during her sickness and the best thing I can do is to give her a decent send-off.”

Nokukhanya’s sister Florence Mashaba (48) said she also didn’t approve of her sister’s plan to cremate Hlompho.

‘We’re not happy because she wants to do things her own way and hasn’t even informed neighbours Hlompho is dead.”

Daily Sun spoke to Nokukhanya (37), who said she didn’t owe anybody an explanation and would do as she saw fit.

“That man never paid damages for my daughter and he will never bury her, finish and klaar!”
