POLICEWOMEN went out at the weekend to combat crime and educate people about human trafficking.
The campaign in kasis in the Vaal, south of Joburg, was in preparation for Women’s Month.
On Friday, Sedibeng women’s network teamed up with the De Deur and Meyerton cop shops and the Midvaal traffic and fire department for a road show in Kliprivier, Meyerton and De Deur.
The road show tackled issues like drugs, human trafficking, domestic violence and crimes affecting women and children.
They started by addressing residents in Boitumelo informal settlement with an educational talk.
They then issued pamphlets and engaged with community members. They went on to do the same at the Meyerton taxi rank.
The road show ended at Tiisetso-Bekezela Primary School in Weilers Farm, where they spoke to pupils about child abuse and child trafficking.
Cluster commander General Pule Molefe told Daily Sun it was important to engage with the community.
“As we are approaching Women’s Month it’s important for the SAPS Sedibeng women’s network to create awareness campaigns and work with different role-players to prevent crimes against women and children,” said Molefe.
“It is also a plea to victims to come forward and report incidents in order for Sedibeng to be a safe and secure environment. I would also like to thank all partners who work with us to prevent crime in the area.”
