Community engagement with police in Gauteng has yielded positive results, including the discovery of a dagga plantation in Muldersdrift on Friday.
Gauteng police uncovered the large dagga plantation on Friday and destroyed around 3 000 dagga plants.
Police, security companies and the community conducted an integrated operation in Muldersdrift, Johannesburg which led to the discovery of the plantation.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said no arrests were made.
While in Muldersdrift, police also raided illegal liquor outlets, closed them down and confiscated volumes of liquor.
In an unrelated case, police acted on a tip-off from the Duduza community on the East Rand and arrested a 42-year-old man, who was found with dagga worth an estimated street value of R600 000.
"Meanwhile, working relations between the community and the police also paid off in Vila Lisa in Dawn Park. Police responded swiftly to information from the community and arrested a 20-year-old man for dealing in drugs," said Masondo.
Masondo said communities have been responding positively to the call by Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Deliwe de Lange, to report criminal activities and to work with the police in exposing and arresting perpetrators of crime.
"The power of community police relations goes a long way in fighting crime and cannot be undermined by the criminals," Masondo said.
