EAST London police have spent the past month working hard to clamp down on crime.

The cops arrested three suspects aged between 27 and 35 on Tuesday.

Spokesman Captain Mluleki Mbi said the suspects were bust at a roadblock on the N2 near Wilsonia after their vehicle was searched.

Cops found 177 new cellphones, R12 000 in cash, an angle grinder and a crowbar.

They also seized a sledgehammer and pliers in the vehicle.

“Initial
investigations revealed these items were linked to a burglary that occurred at a store in Graaff-Reinet recently,” said Mbi.

“The suspects will appear in court soon to face charges of possession of stolen property and possession of housebreaking implements.”

  • Meanwhile, the East London, Barkly East and Port Elizabeth mounted unit confiscated drugs in the East London CBD on Wednesday.

Mbi said they found three Mandrax tablets, five half-tablets and three dagga boompies during a stop-and-search operation in Moore Street.

“A 39-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of drugs. He will appear in the East London Magistrates Court soon,” he said.
