PATIENCE Dlamini is living her family’s legacy.
Five years ago, her mum got tired of running the family business, and the 35-year-old saw an opportunity to take over.
RFK Laundromat has been in business for the past 20 years.
“As a young girl I grew up knowing that our garage was full of clothes and my mum would give them to people after a day or so.
“I never knew that she was actually making money out of it and that it was a business,” she said.
“That was until I helped her one day and she explained it all to me.”
RFK is one of the few laundries that can be found in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni.
Patience said that sometimes running the business is challenging.
“Sometimes, especially on the weekend, people bring a lot of stuff and working alone is hard.”
Patience washes, dries and irons clothes, bedding and carpets, using four washing machines, two driers and two steamers.
She charges according to the amount of clothes and their weight.
She is hopeful that her business will grow in the future.
“I hope that in years to come more branches can be opened,” she said.
