KASI residents are excited about the new housing construction currently underway in their area.

The construction of Fort West in Lotus Gardens, Tshwane, started with a sod turning ceremony on Thursday.

Mandla Nkomo, Tshwane MMC for human settlements, said the R1 billion project is a mixed housing development.

“These houses will accommodate everyone.

“There will be RPDs, houses to rent and also bond houses for those who don’t qualify for free housing.”

Nkomo said the housing challenge remains large, especially in Atteridgeville.

“There are many people who don’t have houses. This project is going to help everyone.

“The development includes the installation of water and sewer services, construction of roads, a school, a police station and parks.”

Councillor Sam Mashole added: “Some of the beneficiaries have been sourced from informal settlements such as West Ford, Vergenoeg and Matlejoane.”

Resident Dineo Mokone (46) said: “We are so happy that we will finally own proper homes.”
