GOVERNMENT and higher education institutions are not providing enough information about possible career choices for pupils with learning disabilities.

This is according to pupils from West Ridge High School in Mayville, west of Durban.

On Friday, deputy minister of higher education Mduduzi Manana visited the school.

Sanele Thango (19), the school’s head boy, said no higher learning institutions or government officials had ever come to their school for a career expo.

“We are clueless on whether there are courses at colleges or universities where we can further our studies,” said Sanele.

School governing body chairwoman, Franceous Ogle said: “The minister’s visit showed our kids that they are not going to sit at home when they finish high school.”

Manana said: “The department has instructed colleges to go to schools and promote their courses.

“They have to share information about what they have to offer.”
